[Solved] Sending mail from outside UZH

Dear All

Since a central Firewall upgrade at the ZI (Wednesday evening), sending mail from outside the UZH via I-MATH mailserver, might fail. The problem is not persistent, but arises from time to time. Sending mail via Zimbra (Webmail) is not affected, but email applications like Apple Mail, Thunderbid, Outlook, Google Mail (via I-MATH Mailserver) ... might report a time out error.

A workaround is possible. Please configure in the SMTP setup port 2525 instead of 587:

Server:   mail.math.uzh.ch
Port:     old:587, new:2525
Protocol: STARTTLS

The problem has been reported to ZI.

Already sent mail: as long as you get 'warning' from 'mailer daemon', the system tries again. If you get an 'error' from 'mailer daemon', the mail has not been sent and you should resend it again (best by using Zimbra Webinterface, as long as the ZI didn't fixed the problem).

CR / 4.2.20 / Our test shows and the ZI reported, that the problem is solved.
