all thinlinc session started on Saturday 11.3.17 has been lost. They are automatically killed during the evening. It seems a network problem triggered a 'cleaning' situation which removed the session. We have to check this in more detail and let you know.

Dear all

we will update and reboot the Thinlinc servers:

Friday, 10.3.2017, 22:00-23:00

All Thinlinc session will be killed and all terminals will be offline during the maintenance:

• Offices
• Terminal room
• Remote access (e.g. from at home)
• SSH server

Best is to close all open applications and to log off completely from the Thinlinc session before the maintenance.

the 7 year old compute host baxter, better known as compute, has been died. Due to the age of 7 years, we won't repair the server - the machine is 'end of life'.

The hostname compute now directs to crous - that one has more recent CPUs, more CPUs and 4 times more memory.

If you now log in to compute, you'll receive the warning

Dear all

during the last weeks different computer attacks, based on various attachments in mails, have been noticed. Especially javascript based Ransomware attacks (your files will be encrypted and you have to pay money to get them back).

Therefore we decided to block Mails with suspect email attachments.
The banned attachment types are not used in daily bussiness. Every time if a mail with such an attachment is detected, you and the sender receive an automatic notification email with the topic:

BANNED contents ... in mail TO YOU from ...

The original mail with the attachment is not accessible for you.

If you receive such a notification, please check the sender address:

- known sender: ask the sender to send the attachment in a different format .
- unknown sender: there is a huge chance that the email is an attack. Typically you can delete such notifications.
